Bullwork started in the field, not in a boardroom. Our founder spent years advising businesses, cleaning up their finances and fixing their operations. In construction it’s the same story shop after shop: estimating in spreadsheets, managing the schedule in one app, keeping the books in QuickBooks, and running certified payroll through a separate service. Four systems, four logins, and a month-end ritual of making them agree with each other.

The breaking point was simple math, the same math he saw in business after business. The bid never connected to the budget, so job-cost variance was always reconstructed after the fact. Payroll lived apart from the ledger, so labor cost was never current. And every public works job meant re-keying payroll into a separate tool to produce a WH-347 and file DIR eCPR. Nothing tied bid to books, and nothing handled California certified payroll without a bolt-on.

So we built it. One platform with a native general ledger, where the bid becomes the budget, every invoice and payroll run posts to the same double-entry books, and certified payroll (WH-347 plus one-click DIR eCPR) is just part of the system. Built from years of cleaning up businesses’ books, tested on real construction jobs, priced like we’d want to pay for it.
